Drosera Species sundews   The sundews come from a wide range of places across the world from Australian deserts to tropical areas With some sundews found growing here in the UK such as D Intermedia. They come in a range in sizes from the tiny pygmy sundews of Australia to the larger South African sundew D. regia. The plants leaves are covered in dew covered tentacles which glistening in the sunlight and they flower profusely in a range of colours red, white ,pinks . The sundew catches its prey when a insect lands on its dewy tentacles mistaking it for water droplets. The insect sticks to this sticky dew the more it struggles the more ensnared it becomes as more tentacles grip the insect till it is overcome and the plant then digest s its meal. The plant should be allowed to stand in ½- 1 inch of water this should ideally be rain or distilled . The plant should be grown in full sun during the summer months During the winter months reduce watering & light when growth slows. The plant can be fed with powered fish flakes if no insects are available to the plant The plant should be potted with a 2 to1 mix of moss peat & sand . © Essex carnivorous plants
