NCCPG National collection of Dionaea

                                            (venus flytraps)

My first Carnivorous plant like many people was a Venus flytrap  from a local Garden centre

I started to find out all I can about them  which started me  collecting them  seriously.

There is only one species of Venus flytrap but there are a number of interesting variations in plant's

in trap colour and size and growth habit and there are man made mutations such as 'Wacky traps'

which have mutated  during tissue culture.

I decided I would like to develop my collection into a National collection so I contacted the NCCPG

I was granted Full national collection status in November 2006  and  hold  70 + plants types in the

Collection.  the Venus Flytraps habitat is diminishing in its native habitat of North & south Carolina

due to destruction of habitat for development & farming, poaching pressures  and climatic change I was talking to a contact of mine in the  States and he told me of a site which was teaming with Vfts but due to the lack of rain fall the population there sadly  has been decimated.

this is why it is important  to have a sustainable bank of these  plants  to help keep the different clones and cultivars in cultivation.

The picture above is a collection of  plants  which I grow in an out side mini  bog

visits to view the collection are welcome during the growing season by appointment only

or by attending our open days.
